The application could not be copied to the user profile (code 41)

The window of the starter says: “The application could not be copied to your user profile.” Below it stands the error code 41; the diagnostic details (Alt+D) hold the technical detail, also the output of Wkl.Bootstrapper.exe /diagnose. The exit code of the starter is 41.

Environment

WKL Bootstrapper 1.0 and later on Windows 11. Supported: Windows 11 with Microsoft Access of Microsoft 365, 32 bit.

Cause

Placing the copy in %LOCALAPPDATA%\WKL\<Product>\Frontends failed: the disk is full, the profile is not writable, or a second start of the same application was still placing it after two minutes.

Resolution

  1. Free disk space and start again.
  2. If an older copy is held open by Access, the new version is placed beside it; close the application and start again.
