The application's folder offers an older version than the one installed before (code 52)
The window of the starter says: “The application's folder offers an older version than the one installed before; it was not installed.” Below it stands the error code 52; the diagnostic details (Alt+D) name both versions. The exit code of the starter is 52. When a version is installed already, the starter starts it instead and reports nothing; the log (%LOCALAPPDATA%\WKL\<Product>\Logs) then says “The delivery is outdated”.
Environment
WKL Bootstrapper 2.2.4 or later with a project file of format 2 that names a deliveryKey.
Cause
The source delivers a version lower than the highest version this user ever installed of the product, and the signed delivery.json does not withdraw that higher version. The highest version counts even after a cleanup, Copy again or an uninstall.
This is how the starter refuses an older signed delivery that was put back on the share: the signature is valid, but the delivery is no longer current. A publisher who goes back on purpose withdraws the faulty version when publishing.
See Signed deliveries.
Resolution
- If the source should deliver the newer version: put the current delivery back into the source and publish it again (
/publish /key <name>). - If going back to the lower version is intended: on the publisher's computer, publish the lower version again and name the higher versions it replaces, for example
Wkl.Bootstrapper.exe /publish /key <name> /withdraw 3.3.0. See How to: Publish a signed delivery. - Start again.
