A setup step of the application did not complete (code 43)

The window of the starter says: “A setup step of the application did not complete; the installed application was left as it was.” Below it stands the error code 43; the diagnostic details (Alt+D) name the program, its arguments and its exit code. The exit code of the starter is 43. /uninstall reports 43 when a program that runs before the uninstall fails; then nothing is removed.

A program the project runs during the installation (actions, see The project file) could not be started, did not end within 30 minutes, or ended with an exit code that is not in its successCodes:

• before the installation (beforeInstall): nothing was installed;
• after the installation (afterInstall): the version was rolled back; what the program itself changed outside the starter's records stays;
• before the uninstall (beforeUninstall): nothing was removed.

A frequent cause is a setup that needs administrator rights: the starter runs programs with the user's rights.

1. Read the diagnostic details for the program and its exit code; the program's own documentation explains the code.
2. If it needs administrator rights, it belongs into the initial installation by the IT, not into the project.
3. If the exit code means success for this program (for example 3010, “restart required”), add it to successCodes.
4. Start again.
