The version of the application is missing in its folder (code 40)

The window of the starter says: “The version of the application is missing in its folder.” Below it stands the error code 40; the diagnostic details (Alt+D) hold the technical detail, also the output of Wkl.Bootstrapper.exe /diagnose. The exit code of the starter is 40.

Environment

WKL Bootstrapper 1.0 and later on Windows 11. Supported: Windows 11 with Microsoft Access of Microsoft 365, 32 bit.

Cause

app-manifest.json names a file that is not in the source folder - usually while a new version is being copied there.

Resolution

  1. Start again in a few minutes.
  2. For the administrator: when you copy a delivery onto the share, copy the database first and app-manifest.json last, so the manifest never names a file that is not there yet.
