The .NET 10 Desktop Runtime is missing (code 33)
The window of the starter says: “The Microsoft .NET 10 Desktop Runtime for the installed Access (32 or 64 bit) is missing.” Below it stands the error code 33; the diagnostic details (Alt+D) hold the technical detail, also the output of Wkl.Bootstrapper.exe /diagnose. The exit code of the starter is 33.
Environment
WKL Bootstrapper 1.0 and later on Windows 11. Supported: Windows 11 with Microsoft Access of Microsoft 365, 32 bit.
Cause
The WKL components run on the .NET 10 Desktop Runtime in the bitness of Access; none is installed in that bitness. The starter itself needs no .NET.
Resolution
- Install the .NET 10 Desktop Runtime x86 for 32-bit Office, x64 for 64-bit Office (the diagnostic details name the bitness). This needs the IT: the runtime installs for the computer.
- Or, with the starter 2.0 and a project of format 2, the delivery can bring the runtime instead: see How to: Deliver a private .NET runtime.
