The settings of the application cannot be read (code 11)
The window of the starter says: “The settings of the application cannot be read.” Below it stands the error code 11; the diagnostic details (Alt+D) hold the technical detail, also the output of Wkl.Bootstrapper.exe /diagnose. The exit code of the starter is 11.
Environment
WKL Bootstrapper 1.0 and later on Windows 11. Supported: Windows 11 with Microsoft 365 Access, 32-bit or 64-bit.
Cause
bootstrapper.json next to the EXE, or app-manifest.json in the source, is no valid JSON or breaks a rule: a format newer than the starter, a product name that breaks the rules for product (characters other than A–Z, a–z, digits, ., - and _; a dot or hyphen at the start; a dot at the end; a device name such as CON), an INI key that looks like a secret, keepVersions below 2, an unknown language or colorScheme. The diagnostic details name the file and the entry.
Resolution
- Open Diagnostic details (Alt+D) and read the entry it names.
- An application administrator can correct the entries on the Administration page of the settings (
/settings), which checks them before saving; a broken file is shown there as far as it can be read. - A newer
app-manifest.jsonformat needs a newer starter: deliver the starter of the same release as the build tool.
