The navigation pane shows more than the model
The pane shows hidden groups, the group of unassigned objects, or a group whose condition shouldn't hold here, or it doesn't show your own category at all.
Environment
WKL Forms Object Library 1.50 or later, Microsoft 365 Access; a navigation pane model saved with the
designer, with WklNavPane.Save, or with the build tool (navPaneModel).
Cause
- Show Hidden Objects is on. When the Show Hidden Objects option (in the navigation options) is on, Access shows hidden groups and the hidden group of unassigned objects dimmed; Show System Objects adds the system tables. Both are settings of the Windows user, not of the database, and they're often on on a developer computer.
- The model wasn't applied here. Conditions are evaluated when the model is applied. A pane written on another computer or in the ACCDB file (by the build tool, for example) shows what held there until the application applies the model itself.
- Another category is selected. Access opens with the category it showed last; a user who chose another category in the pane's list sees that one.
Resolution
- In Navigation Options (right-click the top of the pane), clear Show Hidden Objects and Show System Objects to see the pane the way users without these options see it.
- Apply the model when the application starts:
CreateObject("WklForms.NavPane").Applyin the Load event of the startup form. - Show the category from code:
CreateObject("WklForms.NavPane").NavigateTo. - Check the conditions on the designer's Groups and entries page: a group marked (conditional) appears only where its condition holds.
