Command line of WKL Bootstrapper Manager

This page describes how a shortcut or another program, such as a script or a build tool, opens a project file in WKL Bootstrapper Manager. It is the binding contract between Bootstrapper Manager and its callers and exists in English only. The user guide (German, English, Slovenian) links to it.

Syntax

msaccess.exe "<folder>\Wkl.Bootstrapper.Manager.accdb" /cmd "project=<project file>|starter=<folder>\Wkl.Bootstrapper.exe"

Access passes everything after /cmd to the application as a single string (Command()). The Bootstrapper Manager reads it once, at startup.

Arguments

The string is a list of key=value pairs separated by |. A value extends to the next | and therefore can't contain |. Keys are case-insensitive. All keys are optional.

KeyValueEffect
projectFull path of a format 2 project fileThe file is read into the project list (or read again if it's already there) and selected, and Bootstrapper Manager opens to the General page. If the project is already in the list and has changes that haven't been saved to its file, it's only selected, not read again, so the changes are kept; a notification says so
starterFull path of Wkl.Bootstrapper.exeFor the rest of the session, every command that needs a starter (Check, New, Import on the Projects and Registry pages, Preview, Trial run, Build MSI, and the check on save) uses this starter, in preference to the StarterPath setting and to a starter next to the project file. The setting itself isn't changed

Unknown keys are ignored, so a newer caller doesn't break an older Bootstrapper Manager.

Behavior

  • Missing or unreadable project file: The project list is left as it is, a notification gives the reason, and Bootstrapper Manager opens to the list.
  • No project key: Bootstrapper Manager opens as if /cmd hadn't been specified: to the list, with the most recently read or saved project selected.
  • Second call while Bootstrapper Manager is open: Access starts a second instance; the running instance isn't reused.
  • Writing: Bootstrapper Manager writes the project file only when the project is saved (Save, Ctrl+S, and before Preview, Trial run, and Build MSI), and it always writes the whole file. A caller can detect a save by the file's timestamp. There is no exit code, because the Bootstrapper Manager is an interactive application.
