WklBarcode

A QR Code, Code 128 or Data Matrix symbol of a text, in forms, in reports and on UserForms, drawn by encoders of the framework's own - no barcode font, no external library.

RegionMeaning
1The symbol of Value, centered, with the quiet zone the standard asks for (QuietZone). Kind of code: Symbology; for a QR Code the error correction: ErrorCorrection.
2The text below the code, only with ShowText (font FontName, FontSize).

Key features

  • Three codes. QR Code (any text, UTF-8, four levels of error correction), Code 128 (ASCII, shortest symbol by switching code sets) and Data Matrix ECC 200 (square, ISO-8859-1).
  • Bound like a text box. Set the Control Source to a field or expression; the code follows the current record. A bound barcode never writes back.
  • A code per record in reports. In the detail section of a report the bound barcode draws each record's code - in print preview and in a PDF.
  • Sharp in print. Modules are drawn as rectangles in whole pixels; on a printer the code is drawn at 300 dpi.
  • Picture files. SaveImage writes the code of any text as PNG or BMP, also from an object made with CreateObject, without a form.
  • No error for one bad record. A value the code cannot encode shows the reason in the control and in ErrorText.

Core concepts

The encoders are part of the framework's core (QrCode, Code128, DataMatrix) and turn a text into a matrix of modules; the control only draws that matrix. A change of Value, Symbology or ErrorCorrection encodes again; colors, quiet zone and text only redraw. The control has no color scheme: black on white is what scanners read best, and the designer warns when the modules are not clearly darker than the background. In design view the control shows a sample code of its kind, so the size can be judged before data arrives.
