How to: Open the designer of a control
Open the designer window of a WKL control, or of a WKL object that belongs to the database, to set its properties without code.
Requires WKL Forms Object Library 1.51 or later (the designer of WklApplication); the designer of a control is
there from the release that brought the control.
Solution overview
Every WKL control has a designer window, and it opens the same way for all of them: from the row
Custom of the property sheet in design view. The designer edits the control's own settings; its
pages differ per control (for WklTreeView, for example, data source, appearance, symbols,
behavior, events and all properties, with a live preview). OK writes the settings into the
control, and Access stores them when the form is saved.
Four objects belong to the database rather than to a form, so they have no control. Their designer
opens from the menu Database Tools › Add-Ins (add-in WklExtensions.accda) or from VBA.
Implementation
For a control:
- Open the form in design view and select the control.
- Open the property sheet (F4), tab Other (Andere).
- Click the row Custom (Benutzerdefiniert), then its
[...]button.
For an object of the database, choose its entry under Database Tools › Add-Ins, or call it from the Immediate window:
| Object | Add-in entry | VBA |
|---|---|---|
WklLinkManager | WKL Linked Tables Manager | CreateObject("WklForms.LinkManager").ShowDesigner |
WklRibbon | WKL Ribbon Designer | CreateObject("WklForms.Ribbon").ShowDesigner |
WklRibbon, page Zuordnung | WKL Shortcut Menu Designer | CreateObject("WklForms.Ribbon").ShowAssignments |
WklNavPane | WKL Navigation Pane Designer | CreateObject("WklForms.NavPane").ShowDesigner |
WklApplication | WKL Application Designer | CreateObject("WklForms.Application").ShowDesigner |
Remarks
- The designer of a control opens only in design view.
- The right-click menu of a control offers no entry for the designer; use the row Custom.
- Settings that belong to Access - Control Source, Enabled, Locked, Tab Stop - stay on the property sheet; the designer does not show them.
- Access does not list the events of ActiveX controls on the property sheet's Event tab. The designer page Events (property sheet: row
EventProcedures,[...]) creates the event procedures in the form module; see How to: Create event procedures for a control. - The add-in entries need the add-in WKL Extensions installed for the current Windows user (
tools\install-addin.ps1of the release package, see How to: Install the released package). - The designer windows follow the light or dark app mode of Windows. Size, position and last page of each designer window are kept per Windows user.
