Create a project

This page addresses maintainers and the wiki administration. Anyone who only wants to use a project does not need it — Working with projects is the entry point for that.

A project is created as a namespace with a start page below the project root — in English that is en:projects:. Nothing else is needed; the area picks the project up on its own at the next visit.

The last namespace part is the project key. Under it the project area's data store keeps connections, mounts and work items. The key is therefore an address and should not be changed once anything is filed under it.

The project root depends on the language. A project under de:projects: is recognised in the same way as soon as there is a start page there.

Opening up a further language takes two more pages there beside the projects:

• <language>:projects:sidebar carrying the menu block
• <language>:projects:order for the ordering

The namespace is spelled out in full in the menu block on purpose. Without that, automatic detection runs up to the language root and blends in the remaining areas of the wiki.

A project can also exist without wiki pages where repositories are assigned to it. It then appears in the project list with the repositories as its entry point instead of a project page.

That is not a special case but the ordinary one for projects that exist before their documentation does. A start page can be added at any time afterwards, and the project moves to it as its entry point on its own.
